Two broad periods can be singled out in the history of the car: 1993—1997 and 1997—2000. In 1993 the consumers had a choice from 8 engines with different volumes. The first model was the diesel OM601 in two versions: С200 Diesel and С220 Diesel. They had horsepower 74 and 94 and the torque moment 130 and 150 Nm respectively.
A year before the car of C-class was put on the line the tuning company AMG became official representative of Mercedes-Benz. Later it designed limited edition of С36 AMG model. The model had the same engine М104, but the volume was 276 hp and torque was 385Nm.
In 1995 due to the development of diesel technologies there was some change in the models. Production of C200 Diesel was stopped and a new С250 Тurbodiesel appeared. It had the same ОМ605 engine but turbo version (148 hp, 260 Nm). In 1995 Mercedes-Benz introduced new technology Kompressor for М111.
In 1997 four new models were introduced. There also was a new technology Common Rail which was presented in the model C220 CDI with OM611 engine (123 hp and 300 Nm). this year the innovations touched the engine. the old one was replaced by an all new family of V6, the M112. For C-class vehicles there were two versions: model С240 (168 hp and 225Nm) and a new flagship C280 (194 hp and 265 Nm).

C36 AMG model was replaced by C43 AMG. The car had all the features of a sport car thanks to its suspension and brakes. But the most significant thing was the M113engine with power 01 hp and the torque 410Hm.
In 1998 old diesels were replaced by Common Rail and the model С220 was replaced by C200 CDI.
The production of sedan has been finished in 2000. The engines of some estate cars was give more power: C180 (127 hp, 190 Nm), С200 Kompressor (160 hp, 230 Nm), C240 (the same power but the torque 240 Nm). In 2001 the story of the C-class ended because the new sedan was developed.
